SERRACAPRIOLA (fg) is a crossroads of roads, sheep-tracks and sheep-tracks travelled since the dawn of time, by transhumant shepherds, who brought their flocks to graze in our fertile Apulian table land, and by pilgrims from northern Europe, northern Italy and Rome.

Pilgrims who would go to Monte Sant'Angelo (fg) and Siponto (fg) and then embark for Jerusalem.

Today, in addition to the sea route, (a rib of the Via Francigena), our territory is crossed by the 'Path of Peace', a route that starts in L'Aquila, precisely from the basilica of Collemaggio and arrives at the mountain of the sun at Monte Sant'Angelo, in the sacred grotto of the Archangel Michael.

 It is a 470 km long path that unites 29 countries, crosses 3 regions, Abruzzo, Molise and Apulia, and 4 national parks (Abruzzo National Park, Maiella National Park, Trabucchi Coastal Park and Gargano National Park). It is a spiritual path, but also an inter-religious one. The territories crossed are varied and magnificent. One walks on mountain paths, crosses millennial forests, and admires infinite panoramas.

You descend towards the Adriatic Sea from where you can admire the trabocchi or trabucchi that are real fishing machines still active on our coasts.

Walking between sky and sea lifts the pilgrims' spirits and tiredness vanishes into thin air. Arriving in Serracapriola from neighbouring Molise, walking along the last stretch of the Centurelle/Montesecco sheep-track is a real treat.

The dome of the church of San Mercurio points the right way and the pealing of its bells welcomes them on the last climb to Piazza Vitt.Emanuele (Piazza Castello), and they seem to say, welcome to Serracapriola.
