IL VENTO DEL SUD ODORA D’AMORE E DI MORTE

A compelling story of love and blood set during the dramatic true events of the Italian Unification.

by Ferruccio Castronuovo

Ferruccio Castronuovo is an authentic Pugliese: after spending several years in Rome with his family, he first approached cinema in the 1960s through satirical drawings and cartoons, which he created together with another Pugliese: Pino Zac. Gifted with a unique sense of irony and always a great fan of traditional music from his homeland, he participated in the birth of “FOLKSTUDIO” in Rome and also worked in the most famous clubs in Paris, Brussels, and Barcelona.

His greatest cinematic moment came in ’75, when he was called upon by FELLINI to document a backstage look at the set of "CASANOVA". Fellini greatly appreciated Castronuovo's work and entrusted him with exclusive access for another 12 years. SERGIO LEONE also asked him to document the backstage of his film “Once Upon a Time in America”.

As an author, Castronuovo has written many screenplays including 7 episodes of “L’eredità della Priora” directed by A. G. Maiano. The Italian broadcasting company RAI then made him their historical consultant for all filming. His choice of music was Eugenio Bennato, who wrote the now famous piece "OMME SE NASCE E BRIGANTE SE MORE". He starred in Thierry Gentet’s film "LA VITA UN LUNGO VIAGGIO IN TRENO". His more recent works include "UNA BUGATTI A VICO DEL GARGANO", a 48’ autobiographical documentary. He was also invited to the BIFEST (Bari Film Festival) and again participated as an actor for Thierry Gentet’s film "SUR LA ROUTE DES BALENES".
